The Eye

Ok, I’ll call a spade a spade. I was expecting absolutely nothing from this movie. I expected it to be horrible in every way shape or form. I had three factors going into this movie that told me such. First of all Meghan wanted to see it. That should be a neon light. Secondly the only marquee or even recognizable movie star in is Jessica Alba.(Notice, I said movie star she’s not an actor or actress she cant act.) If that’s not a tell tale sign then I don’t know what is. Last but not least in reasons for expecting to hate this movie. It wasn’t released to any critic before it was released into theaters. “Warning Will Robinson Warning” this movie will suck. Guess what it didn’t, not totally at first. The obscure trailers were an ominous sign not to mention a tell tale foreshadowing factor. I mean really they were all dark and horrifying and flat out creepy. I almost returned this movie with out watching it. I didn’t pay for it so I wouldn’t really be losing any money. The movie started out as expected. It was a poorly written storyline, with boring dialogue and really bad acting. Once the action got started however it got worse. The pace was overwhelming the characters obnoxious and annoying not to mention clique and moronic to boot. Then it went from bad to worse. There was a plot! The writers dared showed some intrigue. Therein lies the problem. With all the aforementioned strikes against it the writers were actually gaudy enough to throw a dilemma into the so called script. Guess what however? In the end it wasn’t half bad. The movie was actually palatable. I was actually able to stomach this movie with out throwing up. I was never palliative nor should I have been. It was a DVD with Jessica Alba ion the front. I mean really are want women going to rent it. In the end though it actually had some merit Not much mind you, It still deserved all the scorn it received. I am however to hold my head up and go about the day with out shame. I can actually tell people I saw this movie and wrote a review on it. (In fact I’m finishing up that review now.) This flick is not as bad as people said I was. It wasn’t bound for the circular file with a Hefty lining. I will give it a grade an English professor would give a good rewrite. Grade C+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
