The Usual Suspects

Let’s start off with the opening credits. First off all how rare are opening credits in today’s fast paced society. Movies usually forgo such an outdated custom and put them at the end of the movie. Next let’s talk about they amazing score accompanying thus said opening credits. Kudos for creativity there as well. This movie is already on my one of my top ten lists for greatest surprise endings of all time . As is Kevin Spacey for Greatest Actors of our time. Those establishments being met this movie will not make my top twenty movies of all time. Maybe it’s because of the vituperative language, perhaps it’s because of the lack of speed for the entire 106 minutes of this movie. It may even be that I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night. This movie was not that impressive as a whole. Sorry Aunt Lou. I’m aware that it won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor (Kevin Spacey) and best Original Screenplay. In my book it just failed to impress. I wasn’t overwhelmingly impressed by this movie. I liked it I just didn’t fall head over heals ga- ga in love with it. It did have a great cast whom were literally The Usual Suspects. There might even have been a few good actors playing cops as well. I was not in awe however. That being said it was incredibly well written and perfectly acted. It my book it only musters a B+. I guess I have been doing this (writing reviews) to long. Grade B+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
