Lucky You

Ok, I Admit the only reason i rented this movie was too drool over Drew Barrymore. I’ve been in love her body of her since E.T. and I’ve been in love with her body since puberty. She is cute and talented. Unfortunately however her talent is wasted in this movie. I was overwhelmingly disappointed. The opening scene was interesting but the rest of the movie was just so so. Lucky You is about Huckleberry Cheever (Eric Banner). First of all what kind of name is Huckleberry anyway. It makes me think of Huck Finn and Huckleberry Hound. Huck is a professional gambler who falls in Love with Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore). When he steals money from her to make an entry fee for a tournament she is pissed of a storms away in a huff. Now alone and desperate Huck must win at the World Series of Poker a tournament in which his father is part of and he has had a life time resentment for ever since his divorced mother died. The plot is slow moving and mundane. The audience is never really held captive much less kept interested. I myself never was really drawn into the plot or given much of a reason to care for the central character. Barry more was the marquee name in this movie but Eric was the central protagonist. The direction of this movie was adequate. I had no real desire to look up his name or even Googol his film history for that matter. While Lucky You was not a total disappointment is was not something to brag about either. It is a movie I’m sure I will soon forget and had to Googol in the first place just to write this review. Lucky You if you stay away form this film It was good but just not great. It is nothing to keep you up at night. Grade C

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
