Going The Distance

Long distance relationships are hard. You never see each other. You rarely talk and the sex is non-existent. That is what this movie is all about. Boy meats girl while on internship in New York. They fall in love only to find out that she lives with her sister in San Francisco. Oh well what do you do? You see this movie and find out. This was a cute romantic comedy about the above-descried situation. The cast is wonderful and the storyline unique. It is a tale of far off love and romance. The writing is crisp and original even if all the characters are not. We have the over protective sister, the annoying single roommate and the hot girl/ guy on either side who causes angst. They all come together to make a cute film and a fun movie. Drew Barrymore plays her typical role. She is the over 30 single woman looking for love. Justin Long is man in question. While he has not had as many film appearances as Ms. Barrymore his character is not terribly original either. He has two single male friends and is always being dumped by some pretty girl. They meet and get it right and love is the result. I never really laughed out loud at this one-hour and forty- eight-minute film. Yet I found it funny nonetheless. It was amusing and cute and was a good form of entertainment so early in the morning. Will I see it again? I will probably not. Will I recommend it to my friends and co –workers? I must say nay one that one too. I will not pan it completely however because it was good. Go see it today and decide for yourself. Grade C+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
