976-Evil

The main character in this movie is named Hoax. He is bullied, picked on and tormented. With a name like Hoax what do you expect? His mother is stolen directly out of Carrie and his cousin is not terribly original either. He (Hoax) vows revenge on all by calling 976 Evil and finally be coming someone to recon with. That is more or less the plot of this movie in a nutshell. This 1989 horror film is full of clichés and predicable circumstances. Like the frightened women going up the steps instead of out the door when things get scary. This film failed to scare me once. The scariest thing about it is people actually paid to see it at one point. Fortunately for me it was free on On Demand. I just want to say I paid the right price. I woke up early again on a Saturday morning. I decided to check out my On Demand menu instead of going for a Netflix pick. I have to say I chose poorly. Lie most movies on Free On Demand this movie was there for a reason. It is not worth paying for. There are some exceptions to this rule but not many. This movie was no exception. It was lame and predictable and not really scary at all. The music was good and there is even a sequel, but what else do you expect from and horror film especially one made in the 80’s. I did enjoy the revenge factor though. As tired and boring as it sounds it was cool to see the little guy get vengeance. It is just ashamed he had to turn in to a Hell bound demon to do it however. This movie is not worth paying for. It may however entertain you for free. If you have nothing else to do that is. In other words this movie is only good is desperate. (as I was) Don’t bother with it or even put it on your list of things to do. Grade F

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
