10 Things I Hate About You.

Ten things I love about this movie. 10. It Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. How can you not love that? 9. It’s Julia Stiles’ first of three Shakespearian turn of the century remakes in three years (it was released in 1999.) She did Hamlet in 2000 and “O” in 2001. 8. The smaller characters aka the adults were wonderfully sick as well as morbid and maladjusted. 7. The cast: Heath Ledger, Julia Styles, Joey Donner Joseph Gordon-Levit. Larisa Oleynik and Larry Miller. 6. The dueling love triangles. 5. The Acting: It was worthy of William. 6. It was the perfect pick me up to watch on a cold Autumn morning after my day job sucked and the Phillies lost game 2 of the World Series. 5. I loved the scenes where Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) serenaded Kat Strafford (Julia Styles) as well as where Bianca Strafford (Larisa Oleynik) the younger sister of Kat beat up antagonist Andrew Keegan (Joey Donner) at the prom in front of the entire student body. 4. The fact that it was predictable but didn’t disappoint. That's what I call pleasantly predictable. I like that. 3. The length 97 minutes is a perfect time span for a movie. Two hours or more is too long for this old man. 2. It was funny it made me laugh often. 1. The movie as a whole it was all in all a fun time. Grade A

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
