This is 40

I will admit I am not now nor have ever been a fan of black comedies. I was not aware this was going to be one however. Second strike against this film as a Christian there are certain film I will not see nor review. (See Bridesmaids or 21 Jump Street.) That being said I need the writing practice and have been giving to many films A’s lately. This film boast and excellent cast. Paul Rudd and Leslie Man are the lead couple in the film (turning 40) it also stars Megan Fox (no nudity), Jason Segel and John Lithgow to name a few other recognizable faces. It failed however to make me laugh for than once. There was a brief time that I snickered but that could have been gas, I’m not sure. There was a scene however in this film where the audience was not in doubt of the main charater gas (Paul Rudd’s)gas however. This film ran way to long at 2 hours and 14 minus. The accepted length of a comedy now days should be around 90 minutes give or twenty minutes. This film exceeded the two-hour mark. It did not need to. The last forty minutes aged me a year or so. It is ironic sine I saw this film on the eve of my 39th birthday. That birthday is December 24th better known as Christmas Eve. I cannot recommend this film to any fellow Christian and I ma not sure I would even suggest a secular audience go see it. As a follower (NOT A FAN) of Megan Fox film I know that there seems to be a nudity watch on her body of work. Let me tll you guys she keeps them on in this film. She is in a sexy black bibkibi in one scene and her breasts are grasped while changed dresses (once again black) in another yet we never see the goods. Perhaps it is approprialte that both outfits are black considering this is a black comedy. I still am not a fan of this film Grade F

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
