The Odd life of Timothy Green

The film appealed to me on many levels. First off all I am a sports writer at a small town college, and my preferred uniform is ‘0’ number and soccer favorite sport. Since the parents in this film both work at a small town pencil factory and the titular character wears a ‘0’ on his chest this film won my heart in the previews. The cast also drew me to this film. Jennifer Gardner (Juno) and Joel Ederton (The Thing ) play the parents / storytellers in this story. They portray a young newly married couple straggling to have a child of their own. They put their collective wishes in a hope chest and bury it in the yard hoping for a rainy day. Rain it does in fact it storms and in their life a child does appear. He is young and innocent, has no place to go and in desperate need for a bath. So the clean him up and take him in and he changes their lives for the better one leaf at a time. I know that may sound like a confusing synopsis but it is an accurate one too. This story may sound a little Christ like or even familiar this time of year. I am a Christian movie critic and I am urging you to see it in another way. See it as a tale of inspiration. Watch it as a story of myth and legend. Let this screenplay motivate you to be happy no matter what or where life leads you. It may be playing dodge ball in the front yard with grandpa or even watching soccer from the bench at school. Timothy Green is a boy to be envied and this film is a legend to be told. Grade A

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
