The Last Airbender

This movie like all things has elements that are good and bad. Let me start off with the good shall we? I feel in a good mood this morning. The special effects were fantastic. I wish I had seen this movie on the big screen in 3D. The cinematography was breathtaking too. The snow covered mountains and oceans looked good and gave a perfect backdrop to this dark setting. The music was the third and final plus to this movie it kept you entertained and into the plot.

Now let me delve into the bad elements of this film. First off was the storyline. I could have told you from the previews it was going to be unoriginal and not creative. In fact I did. I remember maligning this movie from the get go. Saying how bad I thought it would be. Secondly was the acting. It was not as bad as shall we say Twilight but it was horrendous nevertheless.

This movie was not as bad as Joey or Mark said it was. It was not that good however either. It was full of plot holes and inconsistencies and at times was a little over the top. The movie combined elements from other better films. I never felt like I was watching a new storyline but instead it was a jigsaw puzzle of other better films. The pieces of this jigsaw puzzle never really locked into place making the finished work look ugly.

This is a film I can and will not recommend. It left a hole in the end for a sequel and that often pisses me off. Make a movie a movie and not a part of a whole. I don’t mind movie series mind you I just don’t like them when the story is left incomplete. That was the case with this film and will sour my grade on it a lot. It ruined what l liked about the film and made my blood boil like water.

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
