The Expendables

This movie is about a group of renegade solders who will take the jobs most people stray away from. They are a rag tag team of waste and filth that most people don’t care about. That is where they get their name. They go from rescuing hostages to saving stranded missionaries and they do everything in-between. This is their story.

Sylvester Stallone both directed and starred in this film. He was the leader on and off the screen. Unfortunately this film was a dud. It was an action packed film that failed to excite. It at times was lulling me to sleep during the action packed finale. They say to many cooks spoil the broth and I think that is true with this film. It never really had time to focus on one mega star so it was a waste of time for all of them.

We saw it come true in Valentines Day. Now it happens again. Too many big stars in one film and the plot suffers. This type of film does not require much of a plot but in this case there was even a lack of that. The concept for this movie should have been best left of the cutting room floor. Maybe there is a reason films like this are not made every day. They always seem to be bombs.

I cannot recommend this film to anyone, nor can I admit that I even rented it. It was a turkey from the get go. Thanksgiving was last month. I saw this film and had nothing to be thankful for other than the fact that I did not pay nine dollars to see it in theaters. Don’t bother renting this film or adding it to your Netflix queue. It simply is not worth the effort.

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
