Speed Racer

I rented this movie because two of my favorite and most probably youngest blogspot subscribers either loved or loathed this film. Drew is 6 he loved it. Jared is 5 he hated it. Sorry Drew I have to go with Jared on this one. I not only hated or loathed it, I deplored, despised or detested this horrible waste of two hours and 15 minutes.  I (much like the NY Mets ) could find no redeeming quality with in it. I give it an F for the same reason I gave Eagle Eye a C. It was to fast paced to overwhelming and just to much of everything for my fragile 34 year old heart to take in at a single viewing.

I’ll have to admit almost unwillingly that I did love the cast of this movie. Christina Ricci is one of my favorite younger actresses I just adored her in The Opposite of Sex. John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, and Matthew Fox are normally magnificent as well. Notice I said normally. After watching this Mosh Pit of an adventure I’m wondering if there was Mafia contract being held against them to make this horrid film. You know the ones that has the words “sleeping with the fishes” written somewhere in to the paragraphs.

Speaking of sleep that’s exactly l what I want to do and even briefly did while watching this torture chamber of a so called movie. I slept. I want to go back to sleep and forget the entire ill gotten journey. To say this movie was mind numbing would be an understatement it was more like mind boggling. Mind boggling stupid!

Seriously what was with the dialoge in this thing. I ask you does anyone really speak like that anymore. I don’t think so! When Jared’s father said that it missed it audience that was an understatement. It was off in a whole another time zone.

I finally end my ranting in one final some what brief paragraph. As I look at the credits of this film I see it was written and directed by two brothers. It’s almost a foregone conclusion that when a bad director writes his own movie it will be less than spectacular. See my review of Star Wars Episode I if you want another example of such arrogance.

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
