Dairy of A Wimpy Kid

First of all this is not a review, it is a critique. Middle school can be Hell. This movie proves that to be true. Friendships can last forever though. This movie proves that to be true also. This is a story on one tortured youth and his pursuit to simply survive middle school.

Greg Heffley is a struggling kid in middle school. He is tortured by bullies, tormented by his older brother and beat up by girls.  This movie is about him finding his way in the toughest assignment of his life so far, the 7th grade. It is a cute flick that has a lot of merit.

The acting in this movie is great. The young cast plays their roles to near flawless perfection. This movie may have a lot of young future stars in it cast. The storyline is good too. Based on the popular book by Jeff Kinney. This movie brings to life the illustrated novel. It is entertaining, cute and whimsical. I liked it from start to finish.

The spotlight award goes to Cloe Grace Moretz. She plays the unnamed girl under the bleachers. Her role is the most fun by far and she is possibly the prettiest girl in the film as well. All the roles deserve an award though. They are all key and important parts in this movie, including the little brother who does not speak much yet but says a mouthful.

This is definitely a film to take the family to. It is rated PG for mild langue and acceptable violence. It is fun for the whole family however. I enjoyed it and I don’t have a family. I suggest you rent it today, from your local Redbox or add it to your Netflix queue.
                                                                                                                                                                                                   Grade B+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
