Little Man Tate

Oh dear my hopefully many readers how can I sum up my feelings in one word? ZZZZZZZ! I am going into a two job work day with no sleep at all what so ever last night and this movie was almost the incentive to get that much required slumber. I don’t mean to pan this movie or anything I just don’t get it. I watched the entire thing. I saw one dreadfully boring scene after the next. (16 on the DVD Menu) A took it all in and still nada, zilch, zero. I can sum up my emotions in a single word. Yawn!!! While there was nothing necessarily wrong with the movie there was nothing right as well. The acting was fine. Jodie Foster played her usual strong female protagonist to perfection. Dianne Wiest portrayed her role significantly as well. It even was the film debut of Adam Hann Byrd the titular character himself. He portrayed the young Alan Parrish in Jumanji four years later. (The part Robin Williams played as an adult) That part was small and insignificant so has been his career since. (I can’t imagine why? [Any notice the sarcasm in that sentence. I can always be more blunt.]) I found myself drowning in a pool of boredom? Will you save me Lauren! This drama was poorly paced and didn’t show a lot of potential. The direction by Miss Foster wasn’t bad it just wasn’t god either. The only only direction I’m now going move is too Blockbuster to return this movie. Perhaps I’ll put it in the trash can in front of the drop box. Sure I’ll lose the money but I’ll save someone else from renting this dreadful flick. So I may therefore being saving a life. Or at least 4 dollars in this dreadful economy. Grade D

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
