Thunderball

This James Bond movie has a lot of familiar elements. First off we have the three girls a flick scenario drawn out. Secondly we have the evil S.P.E.C.T.R.E. agent as the head baddie. Next we have the two armies facing off towards the end in a great battle and finally we have the end of the movie taking place on or near water. So you fight think this is just your run of the mill 007 movie. You’d be wrong. It is the only film to be remade, and is the only film co written by Kevin Mc Clory. Anybody who is a true Bond fan is familiar with this name. He, not 007 bought an end to Blofeld and his evil agency mentioned above. That being said lets get to the review. This film has a lot of beautiful underwater shots. A good portion of the film is shot underwater and it looks really good. The plot as I indicted above is not terribly original. S.P.E.C.T.R.E steals two nuclear bombs and threatens to explode them in England or The United States. It is a more real threat then some other Bond films but it is not nerve wracking in the least. The head villain is menacing looking and well played by Adolfo Celi. The girls are all stunning and seem to get better looking as the film goes on. The pace is consistent for the most part and will keep you interested in the film for 125 minutes. Sean Connery plays 007 so we know the role is played well. So in a nutshell this is not the best Bond film but it is not the worst either. It has some great underwater scenes and a memorable villain. I will recommend it to any Bond fan but not much of anybody else. See it today however and fell free to disagree. Grade C+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
