Love and Other Drugs

Anne Hathaway started her career playing in family films. Her first film role was playing a princess in The Princess Diary’s. She has since shed that image in darker roles like that in Rachel Getting Married. In this film however she sheds more than images. She sheds clothing. There I a famous nude scene in it where she quickly sheds her jacket in order to come on to Jake Gyllenhaal’s character. It seems she spends more time naked in this film than clothed but I wasn’t really counting the minutes so don’t take my word for that. So just to warn you if you have not figured it out yet this movie is ‘R’ rated for a reason. Some may be offended by the frequent sex in this movie but there is another side to the film. The characters in this film both learn to be human and emotional in the duration of the movie. They deal with heartache and emotional trams just like every body else. While I don’t want to give away too much of the film there is more than sex involved in the plot. On the flip side however this film was in many ways a romantic/comedy. It had many of the clichés moments in it and in many ways just filled in the mold of a romantic flick. The scenarios the characters went through were extremely typical and have been seen in different films before. So don’t expect too much from this film. While it was entertaining and fun it was not the most creative film ever made. While it did have it’s moments and some great acting from Hathaway It is nothing to write home about. Rent it for yourself and decide if this film is worth adding to your permanent collection. I liked it but most probably will forget about it tomorrow. It is currently available at your local Redbox or you can add it to your queue on Netflix. Either way it is worth the rental. If you disagree with my analysis write me and tell me why. Grade C+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
