Kitt Kittredge: An all American Girl

I always enjoy watching the always effervescent, energetic, enchanting and entertaining Abigail Breslin. I am always overly exuberant with euphoria when experiencing her enjoyable films. (Ok, sue me for my overly thought out alliteration) I am ready to admit however that the youthful Miss. Breslin hasn’t always made the most intelligent career decisions. While her acting is consistently pleasant her choice of scripts is less than perfect. See Nims Island or No Reservations for instant. You also must take in for consideration her better-chosen screenplays. I.E. Little Miss Sunshine and Definitely Maybe where she shows Signs of intelligence. This movie falls into the later category. It is enjoyable and fun. The script is simple. Kitt Kittredge is a ten year old (Abigail is actually 12) inspiring writer whom along with her mother must take in boarders in into her fairly roomy Cincinnati home, while her father goes of to Chicago to find employment. She attempts mostly in vein to have her optimistic stories printed by the local paper. She is mostly intrinsically motivated to so. However her extrinsic motivations are entirely modest. She only wants to bring the money home to her family. Abigail headlines an eclectic ensemble cast. Her parents are well portrayed by Julia Ormond and Chris O’Donnell. Joan Cusack and Stanley Tucci are residents in her boarding home. The screenplay is more character driven that reliant on complicated script. While I did enjoy the creative writing within thus said script it is the actors who carry this film. I’ve always been under the belief that a trailer can make or break a movie. If this is true then this movie is made in heaven. Abigail Breslin is shy only the wings to fly unto the clouds. I felt the pierce of Cupids arrow when I first laid eyes on this pint-sized princess. The trailers are perfect bait for this most enjoyable film. Much like Hancock (most likely playing in a neighboring auditorium) the trailers don’t give away the most intriguing elements to this movie. We’ll have to wait till Friday to determine if the same holds true for the seemingly sinister Dark Knight trailers. The antagonist at the beginning seems to be the grumpy, closed minded, prejudicial newspaper editor. (Played immaculately by Wallace Shawn.) There is an unforeseen plot twist however. The true antagonists come out in the end and prove to be even more beneath contempt. . My grade for this movie is without a doubt an A for Abigail. Grade A

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
