National Lampoons Loaded Weapon 1

There seems to be a dime a dozen spoof movies out there. We’ve seen 305, Epic Movie, and Meet The Spartans in the past two calendar years alone. I saw Epic Movie it sucked. I gave t a D. A very generous D. D for deplorable. Loaded Weapon 1 though is actually funny. Right up there with Airplane, Robin Hood Men in Tights, and The Naked Gun trilogy I actually laughed at this one. I wasn’t laughing at the fact that I just wasted my time and heard earned many on this piece of crap like the previously mentioned trio of movies I actually laughed because it was funny. Or maybe I laughed because I need some tension relief because I’m headed to a job I loath in one hour just to pay the bills (like netflix). Lets get down to the meat of it. You can tell by the title and cover of this movie that it is more or less a spoof of the Lethal Weapon movies. Well I adored those movies why not enjoy a movie that makes fun of such wild adventures. Enjoy I did. I laughed, I chuckled I even smiled a few times. This sparse was actually enjoyable and pretty much stuck to it’s guns (pun intended) it didn’t attempt to spoof to many genres, to many movies from various decades like the 80’s I grew up in and enjoyed movies from a child’s like point of view. Now I’m a grown up. For better or worse an adult. I see things through a whole new point of view. I still enjoyed this movie in it’s entirety. It was pointless plotless and unoriginal. Everything a young man needs. It will never win an Oscar, Golden Globe or even a People’s Choice Award. It will however fill a void in my morning when I’m fresh out of hard hitting dramas, scary horror movies, or ex citing action movies to boot. I need some brainless dribble today and that just what I got. It was short, (82 minutes) sweet, and simple. There are times that’s all you need. Grade B

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
