Machete

As I said in my last review there are some movies where you need to see the entire film just to get the message of the film. This is not one of those films. In the opening scene there is violence, language and nudity. That scene pretty much sets the pace for the entire film. Some people would be turned off y such a scene; fortunately I am not one of those people. The main character in this movie is named Machete (Danny Trejo). It is his weapon of choice and how he gets his name. He kills his victims with the greatest of ease. He leaves no stone unturned and will stop at nothing to succeed in his mission. It is nearly impossible to kill him so don’t mess with him and expect to live. He is lethal, dangerous, and unstoppable and that is his calling card. This movie is chop full of stars, including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Steven Segal. They all play their perspective roles well and are marquee names as well. Either one of them could carry a film by themselves they come together perfectly in this movie and do it all with the greatest of ease. I warn you this film is violent. The scenes are graphic and should not be seen by an immature crowd. The movie how ever is good and the aforementioned scenes necessary to carry off the plot. The nudity could be done with out but does portray a message in this R rated film. For the most part, this film did not offend me. It was what it was and did not try to hide what it was. If you like it there are two more in the works. If you don’t like this film then rent something else. I neither recommend this film nor condone it. You need to see this film for yourself to decide whether it is good or bad. Grade C+

A note from an editor!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the time and effort you put into this piece, especially on a Saturday morning. I can tell you definitely took good notes of everything that was going on during the event!

We still have some work to do before this piece is ready to print. Your piece has a lot of information, but it doesn’t sound like a news article. What was the point of his speech/presentation? Why was he addressing this audience? What is Vanguard? What does the company do – who does it serve? You spend a lot of time narrating (for example, how he was injured), but did not report on the purpose of the event. You can maybe mention his appearance/joking about it in a sentence or two, but do not take several paragraphs to do so. Also, I like how you mentioned where the name “Vanguard” comes from.

There are a lot of spelling errors in this piece – make sure you proof read each sentence carefully.

I know I am getting back to you a little later I hoped, and I’m sorry about that! But if you have time tonight, please go through my suggestions and try to rework your piece. You can send me what you have tonight/tomorrow morning. Please bring a copy of it to the meeting tomorrow and we will discuss it further from there.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and promptness! Remember this is a learning process, and we are all part of the Waltonian team!

Talk to you soon!
